About 70 farmers in Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija are benefitting from a project funded by the Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture (KOPIA).

Through the project titled, “Development of the Pilot Village Project for the Establishment of Protective Cultivation and Postharvest Management of Vegetables,” members of the Buklod ng Nagkakaisang Magsasaka ng Batitang (BNMB) Farmers’ Association and Ugat-Uhay Farmers’ Association (UUFA) were trained on rice-based vegetable production.

Following a recent week-long training, the farmer-partners are optimistic that their harvests will increase with the new knowledge they acquired on seedling preparation and vegetable management.

The training is part of KOPIA’s PhP1-M commitment to the local government of Zaragoza and its communities, which will end in December this year.

Dr. Kyuseong Lee, KOPIA director, said that the project will cover financial assistance for vegetable production workshops, market linkage, and a post-harvest facility. The project is also restoring 13 greenhouses damaged by a typhoon late last year.

BNMB and UUFA have been partners of the Rice Business Innovations System (RiceBIS) Program of the Philippine Rice Research Institute since 2018.
