An entrepreneurial program of the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) in Midsayap, Cotabato has gained momentum with farmers recently co-developing its 5-year development plan.

The 12 farmers representing their clusters in Midsayap and Libungan under the Rice Business Innovations System (RiceBIS) helped in crafting the blueprint that encompasses the necessary processes, ranging from needed training to the acquisition of the equipment for the establishment of agro-enterprise of each farmers’ association.

Farmer Melanie Labiang expressed gratitude for the guidance given by PhilRice and the Department of Agriculture-Region 12 through the Farm and Fisheries Clustering and Consolidation Program.

“I’m  grateful for the invaluable insights gained from workshops like these. With the aid of such programs provided by various agencies, we believe that our farm management and decision-making skills will improve,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ommal Abdulkadil, PhilRice Midsayap RiceBIS Program coordinator, said that the endeavor not only nurtures camaraderie but also strengthens rice enterprise across communities.
