NSIC Rc9 or Apo is four days overdue as the land owner is yet to find farm-laborers who will harvest his 12 ha. Implementers of   Upland Rice Development Program (URDP) based at the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) had advised its farmer-cooperator to harvest the crop immediately as reaping too late leads to increased grain shattering and breakage during milling.

Planted between rows of mango trees, this upland variety has an average yield of about 3 t/ha and has maximum yield of 5.5 t/ha. It matures in 119 days and has resistance to blast.

Owner of the rice-mango farm is a recipient of URDP being implemented by the Department of Agriculture through PhilRice. Ruben B. Miranda leads the PhilRice-URDP team.
