The Rice and Corn Seed Growers Association (RICOSGA) in Negros Oriental has reactivated its operations after receiving support from the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Seed Program.

RICOSGA chair Ariel Capilla said that the once inactive seed growers’ organization was faced with challenges such as low membership, limited funds, and lack of seed procurement. With the help of PhilRice and other partner agencies, he said, the association underwent training and accreditation to boost its capabilities and confidence.

The training covered topics such as organizational, managerial, financial, and entrepreneurial skills, as well as proper field management and fertilization techniques.

“With renewed skills and membership, we were accredited as certified seed supplier for the RCEF program,” Capilla said.

RICOSGA has committed to deliver 9,000 bags of inbred seeds to Negros Oriental farmers.

Engr. Rojen F. Austria, the RCEF coordinator overseeing the project, expressed optimism about the association’s future.

“We are optimistic that, through empowering seed growers and providing necessary support, they can not only thrive but also make significant contributions to the agricultural sector,” he said.
