PhilRice Isabela conducted a two-day skills training on rice-based product processing to capacitate the cluster members of RiceBIS Isabela Community who will engage in enterprise development, June 13-14.
The said training will help attain the RiceBIS program’s goal of increasing farmers’ income by linking them to the market.
In partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Isabela, farmers were trained in making rice cake and rice wine. The training was facilitated by Ms. Edna Barasi, an accredited DTI Isabela Skills Trainer.
Farmers were also taught how to make salted egg out of mallard duck eggs. In Isabela, it is a common practice for farmers to raise mallard ducks after dry season’s harvest.
Ms. Saranay Gaboy, President of MarDag RiceBIS Association, said the training will help them run an agri-based enterprise.
Dr. Ofelia C. Malonzo, co-lead of RiceBIS Isabela, encouraged the farmers to make sure that their chosen enterprise will not only be profitable but also sustainable.
DTI Isabela also signifies interest in assisting the RiceBIS Isabela community in other related trainings.
