The Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) had responded to the call of help for the victims of Typhoon Sendong by sending cash donations through the Sagip Kapamilya of ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc.

Dr. Eufemio T. Rasco Jr, PhilRice executive director, lauded the initiative conducted during the Institute`s Christmas program.

“The sufficient amount we raised in an instant announcement shows how we hold the value of giving. Giving is the meaning of Christmas and we wish for this value to be carried on by future generations,” he said.

Other than helping the Foundation in increasing the reach of its relief operations, PhilRice also provided cash to Children`s Joy Foundation, a non-stock and nonprofit organization established to assist the abandoned children.

In his Christmas message, Rasco, who was appointed as PhilRice chief last July, commended the staff for the trust given to his new leadership. He said that the Institute can achieve more through mutual trust.

“I came with the message of trust, as I hope many of you felt when I came alone, completely relying on your professionalism to adjust to a new leadership. And I could sense that the feeling has been mutual – you trusted me as I trusted you. If this is sustained, we can do a lot of great things together,” he said.

Furthermore, Rasco envisions a “bright 2012 for PhilRice” with the completion of management shifts and plans for implementation of big projects.
