Kabacan, Cotabato – To improve farmers’ access to high-quality seeds in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, a new buffer-stock seed warehouse was established in this town through the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) Midsayap.
The P10-M facility is located within the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) compound near the DA-PhilRice – USM seed farm.
Dr. Francisco Gil N. Garcia, USM President and DA-PhilRice Trustee, said that the facility would help ensure the production of high-quality seeds and also expand the station’s operations.
“This is the realization of DA-PhilRice’s vision for the people of Cotabato to have their storage facility,” he said during the recent groundbreaking ceremony.
With this additional source of high-quality seeds, DA-PhilRice Midsayap Director Sailila E. Abdula expects an improvement in the yield of the said rice-producing province.
