The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) and Central Mindanao University (CMU) in Maramag, Bukidnon recently agreed to continue collaborating for better rice research for development (R4D) programs.

Working together since 2001, the parties recently renewed their partnership on developing and promoting rice and rice-based technologies until 2033.

Under the new 13-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), DA-PhilRice and CMU will continue collaborating on producing high-quality rice seeds and implementing agricultural and developmental programs in the university’s area coverage.

The university agreed to continue providing 100ha of land for the field and building and structures needed for the collaborative R4D projects. Part of this land serves as rice technology demonstration areas and seed production project sites to ensure that high-quality seeds of inbred and hybrid rice varieties are produced and made available to seed growers and Mindanao farmers.

The 100ha is also where theses and collaborative researches are conducted.

Signatories to the agreement were Dr. John C. de Leon, DA-PhilRice Executive Director, and Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derije, CMU President.

DA-PhilRice also recently signed a 5-year MOU with the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture in Pili, Camarines Sur. The Institute has an ongoing collaboration with Central Luzon State University, Mariano Marcos State University, Western Mindanao State University, University of Southern Mindanao, and University of Eastern Philippines.
