Shiela O. Sabaria (RiceBIS Bicol Project Staff), Melanie Aileen C. De Peralta (Project Lead, RiceBIS Bicol), Elsa A. Parot (Center Director, ATI-RTC V), and Vivien O. Carable (Assistant Center Director, ATI-RTC V) sign the agreement.

DA-Agricultural Training Institute and DA-PhilRice Bicol recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Rice Business Innovation System (RiceBIS).

The system is intended to introduce new ideas, workflows, and methodologies or services in rice production and business.

Despite the onset of COVID-19 pandemic last year and a 2,175ha (2.5%) reduction in the harvest area in the first semester of 2020, palay production in the region attained a 10.74% increase in volume of production by 631,671 metric tons (MT) during the period, up from 570,386 MT in 2019, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported.

RiceBIS will enable farmers to help sustain the region’s rice productivity and strengthen their competitiveness and revenue in the business.
