Miss Universe third runner-up Ariella Arida joined the Run4Rice, an advocacy run that aims to promote ways on how to be “RICEponsible,” held at the UP Los Baños grounds, Nov. 24.

Spearheaded by the Department of Agriculture, the activity is part of the other runs conducted simultaneously in 11 regions in the country, which encourages the public to reduce rice wastage, eat brown rice and rice-mixes, and value the hard work of the farmers.

Leading a 700-pack in the recitation of Panatang Makapalay, Arida urged the runners to conserve rice to help the country produce enough rice.  Arida, who finished the 10k track, was joined by other runners ranging from 8 to 80 years old in either the 5, 10, or 21k distance categories.

The University of the Philippines and Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development also supported the Run4Rice in celebration of the National Rice Awareness Month.

Proceeds of the run will be donated to the Yolanda survivors, specifically to those in the Palawan areas, who are overlooked by relief operations.
