PhilRice is set to launch a book on engaging young people in agriculture at the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) in Los Baños, Laguna, July 13, 1-5pm.
Youth & Agriculture: The Infomediary Campaign in the Philippines relates the experiences and how-tos of PhilRice project on Infomediary Campaign
Campaign team lead Jaime A. Manalo IV is the main author, with contributions from team members Katherine P. Balmeo, Jayson C. Berto, and Fredierick M. Saludez.
Students and practitioners who are engaged in agriculture, development communication, community development, and anyone working in the same space are the intended audience of this book.
“This book is for them so we can all keep the passion on bringing developments to our rural communities,” Manalo said.
The book has three main sections. The first part narrates the brief history of the Infomediary Campaign, its major components and activities. The second part focuses on the how-tos of campaign implementation such as the distribution of activities and data collection methods. Lastly, the third part of the book shares stories about the experiences of the Infomediary team in working in rural communities. Reflections and some lessons on development work are also included in the book.
National Scientist Dr. Gelia T. Castillo wrote the book’s foreword. The publication was made possible through the book grant given by the DA – Bureau of Agricultural Research.
The Infomediary Campaign is in collaboration with the Department of Education and the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Security. It operates in close to 100 high schools nationwide.
