A PhilRice videographer recently won in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) international video competition themed Advancing Asia: Investing for the future.
Jayson C. Berto, a videographer and writer from the Institute’s Development Communication Division, won in the Asia-wide contest by the IMF.
Berto’s entry was about PhilRice’s Infomediary Campaign site in Davao Oriental. He documented how the training of a school teacher resulted in quite a number of impressive results.
The teacher taught her students several climate-smart rice production technologies, which resulted in the students taking the lessons to the next level by producing carbonized rice hull (CRH) and selling it to the farmers in their community.
In the video, Berto documented how the Infomediary Campaign-participating school engaged the farmers in the community by leading an agricultural extension activity. Through the Campaign, the school then served as a hub of agricultural information in the community.
“I bought CRH from the students as I saw that it yielded good results in their plants,” said a farmer-parent in the video.
PhilRice’s Infomediary Campaign is a youth engagement in agriculture initiative. It mobilizes young people to serve as information providers or infomediaries in the rice –farming communities.
The Campaign operates in 108 high schools nationwide in collaboration with the Department of Education and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research on Climate Change, Agriculture, and Food Security.
Berto is the videographer of the Infomediary Campaign. He was awarded during the Advancing Asia Conference in India, 11 March.
