PhilRice Batac

New rice production graduates. PhilRice trained new 33 rice specialists who completed a Rice Specialist Training Course- Farmers’ Field School, Oct 29. About 200 farmers from Paoay and Batac City, Ilocos Norte joined them in the closing ceremonies. Farmers were given introductions on vermicomposting, mushroom and vegetable production, and rice machineries.

PhilRice Los Baños

Farmers’ market in the city. PhilRice Los Baños spearheaded the “Merkado ng mga Magsasaka sa Luneta,” where CALABARZON  farmers sold their rice and rice-based products to consumers in Metro Manila. The event also included a free workshop on urban gardening from the Agricultural Training Institute and featured PhilRice Los Banos’ annual Ceremonial Rice Harvesting.  The activity is in support of the National Rice Awareness Month celebration with the theme “Buy local. Eat local. Support our rice farmers.”

PhilRice Bicol

Establishing a VAW-free community. Supporting the National Observance of the 18-day campaign to end Violence Against Women (VAW), Nov. 25-Dec. 12, PhilRice Bicol made the women in their communities aware on where to seek help for protecting their rights.  They also distributed VAW-related materials.

PhilRice Negros

Seed distribution. Around 5,000 bags of high-quality seeds from the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF)-Seed Program were distributed to farmers in Sipalay City and Valladolid, Negros Occidental, Nov. 19. The program allocated 57,118.25 bags of high-quality seeds for Negros Occidental covering 51,118.25ha per cropping season. Twenty-nine municipalities will also receive rice seeds by second week of December.

PhilRice Midsayap

Riceponsible youth. About 300 junior and senior highschool students in South Cotabato participated in a Be Riceponsible activity, Nov. 19. Tupi National High School and Polonuling National High School students tried brown rice. They were also briefed on the  career opportunities in agriculture.

PhilRice Agusan

Machines and high-quality seeds. Three-day training course on equipment operation and maintenance was conducted in PhilRice Agusan, Oct 22-24. The course included machine operation and proper storage of high-quality seeds.
