Ariella Arida, Miss Universe Philippines 2013 and Miss Universe 2013 3rd runner-up, kicks off this year’s celebration of National Rice Awareness Month (NRAM), Nov. 4 at UP Diliman.

As “Be RICEponsible” ambassador, Arida, who joined the Run4Rice for the Yolanda survivors six years ago, will help promote NRAM’s theme, “Buy local. Eat local. Support our rice farmers.”

Campaign implementers based at Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), said the theme “imparts the importance and benefits of eating safe and nutritious rice and the value of patriotism in supporting the local rice farmers.”

“We know how local rice is being produced that it doesn’t need to travel to reach our tables unlike rice imports. As a consumer, it is very important to take into consideration that the rice we consume must be nutritionally beneficial and will not cause any harm to our health,” implementers said.

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 524 s. 2014, PhilRice and its partners had lined up exhibits at the Department of Agriculture lobby and SM Cabanatuan, Brown Rice and Rice Mix Day, Ceremonial Harvesting at the Rice Garden (Luneta Park), and National Rice Stakeholders Conference.

Schedule of activities will be regularly posted at https://www.facebook.com/rice.matters/.
