A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on providing training on rice machine operation and the science of rice production was signed between PhilRice Los Baños and Nicolas L. Galvez Memorial Integrated High School (NLGMINHS) in San Antonio, Bay, Laguna.
NLGMINHS officials tapped PhilRice Los Baños to enhance their offering of organic agriculture production and rice machine operation under the Senior High School Program.
“We will train students on how to operate and maintain rice machines for land preparation, crop establishment, crop care, harvesting and threshing, drying, and milling,” says Evangeline Austria, NLGMINHS Technical Vocational Track coordinator.
The school commits to promote the importance of rice research and encourage students to pursue agriculture specializations.
Dr. Caesar Joventino Tado, PhilRice LB branch manager, has committed to mobilize the staff members of the station to realize this undertaking. The MOU is good for 5 years and can be renewed.
“This initiative is central to engaging the youth to pursue careers in agriculture,” says Dr. Tado. A One-Stop-Information Shop (OSIS) will also be put up in the school library.
OSIS is PhilRice’s mechanism to make available knowledge products on rice for its stakeholders. OSIS is basically a small space that contains knowledge products on rice in different formats such as books, magazines, and technology videos. All PhilRice branch stations are maintaining OSIS spaces in different locations nationwide.
