Limited access to quality inbred rice seeds in Basilan has pushed Lamitan City to back a community-based seed production effort aimed at stabilizing supply for local farmers. The local government unit of Lamitan City in Basilan has pledged full support for the Inbred Seed Multiplication and Purification Project (SMDP) under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Seed Program, responding to recurring seed shortages in the island province. By producing seeds within the community, the initiative reduces delays, cuts logistics costs, and secures a steady seed supply each planting season.
