Agricultural extension workers and farm school trainers from Northern Mindanao vowed to share the new knowledge they gained from the training of trainers on pest and nutrient management in rice in Lala, Lanao del Norte, Nov. 14-18.
Vaniza B. Cambonga, Farmer Field School (FFS) trainer said that aside from the technical aspects of pest and nutrient management, the training helped her in effectively teaching the rice farmers.
“Farmers already have a solid basis for their decision-making, especially those who’ve been farming for decades. However, they need new knowledge with the changing landscape and emerging challenges on rice production,” Cambonga said.
The 37-year-old FFS trainer shared that relaying new technologies is now their new role after completing the training.
Cambonga plans to introduce the recommended rat management practices in their community as it is one of the most common problems of farmers in Lanao del Norte. Among the recommendations he intends to promote include the field sanitation and community-wide rat trapping.
The training is conducted by the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund – Rice Extension Services Program (RCEF-RESP) under the Rice Tariffication Law or RA 11203.
