The officials, led by Dr. Eufemio T. Rasco Jr, executive director, commended 2 international awardees; 7, national; and 2, regional.

Recipients of 3 international best poster awards; 19, national; 7, best paper international awards; and 12, national were also recognized.

“We are a globally competitive organization, which [wins] in every scientific gathering, national or regional over the past year. If we count publications wherein our staff are not the main authors, we would`ve more than doubled our scientific productivity,” Rasco said.

“We must not forget that we are not a regular bureau tasked to provide front line services. We are a knowledge organization tasked to innovate, invent, discover. We don`t make policies, we only study, deliberate, propose and advocate policies. We don`t change people`s lives, we only create ways and demonstrate how we inspire and teach others,” he added.

The institution also recognized 36 loyalty awardees and welcomed 3 PhDs and 9 master`s graduates.

A moral enrichment program tackling “The New I,” which entails transforming one`s self by renewing the mind, also highlighted PhilRice 29th anniversary.

The 16th Santiago R. Obien Seminar series, led by Dr. Reynaldo Ebora of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, featured the importance of maintaining high standards for an institution to be at its best.
