More than 600 farmers from Regions 4A and 4B were recently congratulated for their hard work that will help the country achieve rice self-sufficiency.

During the recent Farmers` Field Day in Los Baños, Laguna, local government officials, professors, and researchers, consultants and executives from different agencies extended their heartfelt gratitude to the 600 farmers from MIMAROPA and CALABARZON.

The farmers were overwhelmed with the grateful gestures of the guests while singing the official song of the National Year of Rice (NYR2013) titled Sapat na Bigas, Kaya ng Pinas.

Carmelita Calimoso, a farmer from Silang, Cavite, said that she felt valued as the government recognized their work as farmers. She added that also boosted their self-esteem.

After enjoining all the field day participants to accept the challenge of helping the country achieve rice self-sufficiency by shouting Sapat na Bigas, Kaya ng Pinas, PhilRice Deputy Executive Director for Development Dr. Eduardo Jimmy P. Quilang led them in reciting the NYR pledge.

Los Baños Mayor Caesar P. Perez, on the other hand, asked the farmers not to belittle themselves because they are worthy to be called heroes.

The field day had the theme Akmang Pagsasaka Ngayon, Sagot sa Hamon ng Panahon.
