As part of the movement to a more RICEponsible Philippines, new recipes that will excite kids to eat brown rice and rice mixes were showcased in a recent cooking contest hosted by the Department of Agriculture.
Ms. Cheryl C. Suarez, officer-in-charge of the Agriculture and Fisheries Information Division (AFID), said that it is best to introduce brown rice to the children so they can appreciate its taste at an early age and for them to be healthier growing up.
The contest, dubbed as Healthier rice challenge, was held at the Lucky Chinatown Mall and participated by five schools in Metro Manila.
Contest judge Chef Sharwin Tee, winner of Lifestyle Network`s Clash of the Toquen Ones and host of Curiosity got the chef, selected Vegetable Chao Fan, Organic Sauté Kachi (combined kangkong and chicken), and Tinapa Kamote Fried Rice as winners.
The recipes will be included in a cookbook to be produced by AFID to further promote the consumption of brown rice and rice mixes.
The Philippine Rice Research Institute co-organized the activity.
