PhilRice LB Lakbay Palay

About 400 participants including farmers, extension workers, students, provincial and municipal agriculturists, experts, and partners across CALABARZON were gathered last April 18 for the station’s Lakbay Palay Dry Season 2018 at PhilRice Los Baños.

The event intends to showcase rice-related technologies and innovations to stakeholders. This year’s theme “Binhing Dekalidad, Pagpapalayang Maunlad!” focused on the use of high quality seeds for progressive rice farming.

During her opening remarks, PhilRice Los Baños Acting Branch Director Ms. Rhemilyn Relado challenged the participants, most especially the farmers to become more receptive to new information and technologies on rice farming. She urged to strengthen the partnerships among stakeholders for a bountiful harvest in the country.

Moreover, as an opportunity to discuss with some of the leaders and experts in the agricultural sector who were present during the forum, participants were encouraged to raise questions and address issues relating to rice. Some of the issues raised by the participants are the high production costs and trade prices during the wet season.

During the Technology Forum, the Lakbay Palay 2018 participants addressed rice-related issues specifically on the access to farming equipment and the continuous struggle in dealing with traders. As a simple “thank you” to the participants who made #PhilRiceLBLakbayPalayDS2018 a success, they were given prizes and tokens towards the end of the event.
