Dr. Mary Ann Baradi, supervising science research specialist of PhilRice in Batac, Ilocos Norte, recently received the regional Gawad Saka outstanding agricultural researcher award from the Department of Agriculture.

Baradi received the award for her  researches published in national and international journals and presented in conferences.

She co-authored the study titled, Simulation of paddy drying in a Low Cost In-Bin Dryer, published in the Advanced Crop Science journal. The study simulated paddy drying in in-bin dryer using a mathematical model based on heat and mass transfer modeling.

Meanwhile, her study on Aroma loss in rice as affected by various conditions during postharvest operations, investigated the effect of various conditions during drying, storage and milling on the aroma level and concentrations of the principal aroma compound 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline (2AP) of the Philippine aromatic rice Maligaya Special 6 (MS 6).

She finished her PhD in Agricultural Engineering on October 2011 at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños, her MS in Agricultural Engineering in the same university on April 2002, and her BS in Agricultural Engineering in Mariano Marcos State University as Cum Laude in 1996.

As Region I`s Gawad Saka Outstanding Agricultural Researcher, she will represent the region in the national competition this year.
