Text Center responds to more than 70,000 queries |

The Farmers’ Text Center (FTC) based at Philippine Rice Research Institute, answered a total of 72,611 text messages from 2006 to 2009 with an average of 50 texts per day enhancing the delivery of agricultural information to farmers and extension workers, a study revealed.
Stoix Nebin Pascua, lead author of the paper titled, Enhancing Knowledge Networking through Short Messaging Service: The Farmers’ Text Center Experience of the Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture (OpAPA), said the results show the importance of short messaging service (SMS) in the delivery of agriculture information. |

PhilRice newly conferred Scientist I takes oath |

Dr. Sergio Francisco, PhilRice socio-economist, took oath as Scientist I at Sulo Hotel, Quezon City, May 6, after his conferment by the Philippine Scientific Career Council (PSCC) November last year.
Francisco was qualified as Scientist I for publishing several international and local refereed papers, ISI-indexed papers, and technology bulletins on ex-ante and ex-post impact and policy evaluation.
Moreover, his study on the Resource Allocation Tradeoffs in Manila’s Peri-Urban Vegetable Production Systems: An Application of Multiple Objective programming published in the international ISI-indexed Agricultural Systems Journal contributed to his qualification. |
