Average user rating0.0out of 5Isabela farmers, mostly 40-50 years old, attended the information communication technologies (ICT) training conducted by the Open Academy for Philippine Agriculture (OpAPA) based at PhilRice-Isabela, Jan. 14.
Participated by 18 farmers, the training improved the skills of rice tillers, who used the computer for the first time. Computer programs and internet applications such as MS Word, e-mailing, and web browsing were demonstrated to the farmers. Moreover, searching rice production technologies and agriculture-related information through the internet was also taught.
“[I learned how to use the computer to solve my problems in the rice fields] as well as proper farm management,” Wilma Gaunia said in Filipino.
Meanwhile, Basilio Gudoy said the training taught him new ways of communication. “Natutunan kong gamitin ang computer sa pakikipagcommunicate (I learned how to use the computer in communicating people here and abroad instantly),“ he said.
Farmers were also encouraged to register to the Farmers’ Text Center and to text the Center for rice production queries and tips. Farmers could register by typing REG Name, Age, Address, Occupation and sending them to 0920-911-1398.
“ICT platforms such as the Farmers’ Text Center, [online training courses], and basic computer trainings are factors that could increase farmers’ rice production,” said Rene Valdez, OpAPA-Isabela team leader.
OpAPA is a research cum development project that aims to explore ICT applications in the Philippine agriculture. Based at PhilRice, the academy aims to inform, educate, train, and mobilize stakeholders in agriculture through innovative and new media.
OpAPA delivers agricultural extension services through e-commerce or Palaytindahan, e-forum, online campaign, and the mobile internet bus and cabs. | Average user rating | There are no user reviews for this item
