Join DA-PhilRice in experiencing rice on Nov. 23-26, at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in celebration of the Rice Awareness Month. With the theme, “The Future is Bright, The Future is Rice,” the event showcases activities that will introduce rice farming to people in Metro Manila and other key cities.      

A cultural tour on rice and rice science will be exhibited for children and students in this four-day event. There will be games, stage plays, and rice folklore- and legend-telling. Short films on Tipid Rice Tips, rice biotechnology, and rice awareness will be shown. Lectures on PhilRice’s Palayamanan and PalayCheck systems, as well as updates on rice science and technology will also be conducted.  

Moreover, the event gathers exhibitors from the public and private sectors. DA regional offices will be exhibiting their famous rice-based by-products. Investors will likewise have the chance to see the many areas worth investing on in the rice industry during the agribusiness forum on November 24 and 25. Successful farmers will share their testimonies on the same dates.  

Chona Suner-Narvadez, marketing manager of PhilRice said the MOA event will introduce the youth to many and diverse opportunities in the rice industry and other social and agro-industrial ventures. Hence, the emphasis on the business side of rice production.

Children International, through its sponsorship program, has been assisting poor children and families to gain equal access to basic services such as education. Through their participation, the message of a bright future with a sustainable rice economy will be sent wide and reach more sponsors.

The socio-civic arm of the SM Group of Companies, SM Foundation, helps the less fortunate in communities it serves. They will invite children from different schools to the exhibit through the NIDO Science Discovery Center to experience rice.

Aside from the MOA event, a number of activities nationwide are being conducted in celebration of the Rice Awareness Month.
