Nitrogen deficiency is probably the most common problem in rice growing and tends to be of large economic significance. To prevent the rice plants from having this deficiency, the Philippine Rice Research Institute and the International Rice Research Institute developed the Leaf Color Chart (LCC). It is a diagnostic tool that measures the nitrogen status of a rice plant based on leaf color. Use LCC 14 days after transplanting and 21 days after direct wet seeding. Its readings will serve as a basis if there is a need for more nitrogen application, thus, it can increase yield and nitrogen fertilizer use efficiency.
